World book day 2018

It's coming up to that time of year again when droves of children will be winging their way to school dressed as their favourite character from their favourite book. Yes, it's the bane of parents' existence - World Book Day! Love it or loathe it, it's here and most schools in the UK do something to celebrate all things published.

In previous years, my son's school has done a readathon in the school hall where children were asked to bring in their favourite book and a sleeping bag whilst attending school in their pyjamas so that can all settle down in the school hall with hot chocolate and cosy-up reading. When my son was really small this was his favourite day of the year at school. In later years they have done what a lot of other schools have done and asked for children to come dressed as their favourite book character. My son is an avid reader and one of his favourite characters is Harry Potter so he has gone to school donned in his Gryffindor finery with a big smile on his cheeky face.

One of these images of my son as Harry Potter has been used by Perform Workshops Ltd who run fantastic themed drama classes for schools in and around London. Check out their World Book day themed workshops here.

So if your child's school or nursery are running a dressing up event to celebrate World Book Day on 1st March 2018 don't panic, several high street stores and supermarkets are already stocking costumes at very reasonable prices to help your day go nice and smoothly.

1. Check out some of these costumes at B&M - I love the Mad Hatter and the unicorn costumes! Images courtesy of B&M website.

The supermarkets and high street stores seem to have really gotten on board this year with the phenomenon known as World Book Day. If you are after something a little less mainstream though and want to make your own costume why not check out some of the amazing ideas over on Pinterest - from Farawy Tree's Saucepan, through Julia Donaldson's Snail and the Whale (this book makes me cry!) to Aliens Love Underpants, there's no reason to stress this World Book Day, here at Secret Smile Photography I've got you covered.

I would love to see what your little ones dress as this year! Please feel free to pop over to my Facebook page and post your pictures!
