Lisa at Secret Smile Photography is a registered member of the guild of photographers
 The Guild of Photographers

At Christmas I joined an organisation called The Guild of Photographers to ensure that I was part of a body who helped me to continually strive for better quality images for you guys, my wonderful clients.

"The Guild", as they shall henceforth be referred to as, are an organisation who provide training, feedback and a benchmark of quality for images monitored through the monthly Image of the Month or "IOM" competition. This monthly competition allows photographers to submit their images to a panel of judges (anonymously) for scoring. You can submit 1, 3 or 9 images for judging by the end of each month and on the 21st of each month you are emailed your results.

Joining The Guild was one of the best things I have done since I set up my business Secret Smile Photography almost 4 years ago. I am part of a buddy group of 12 photographers and we share our images in a closed group for constructive criticism and I can honestly say that it is the first time I have laid myself open to feedback on my work. It is wonderful to see what other people see in your images and it gives you a good idea of simple edits to make to ensure that your images are the best they can be and to hopefully receive an award in the monthly competitions.

Several levels of scoring mean that images can be awarded 'bars', Platinum being the highest (and rarely awarded) down to Bronze. A Bronze bar is defined as 'Images of a strong standard at professional level'.

I entered 3 images into the IOM this month...

...and got bronze bars for each of them, one of them narrowly missing a Silver bar by 1 point!

Here are my entries:

The Guild of Photographers - award winning photography by Secret Smile Photographer in Leeds, specialist newborn, baby, child and family photographer

I am so proud of myself not only for winning these awards for my images and becoming an award-winning photographer but for being brave enough to openly ask a panel of very experienced judges to pass judgement on my work.

Thank you to The Guild of Photographers for providing such a helpful platform for personal and professional development. Thank you to all you lovely people who have supported me on my journey and long may it continue! Special thanks to Iona and Lauren because it is their gorgeous babies in my images - Samuel and Maisie, what cuties you are!
