**NEW** bump casting at Secret Smile Photography

Pregnancy is a magical time. Ok so you're probably very tired, you can't get comfortable in bed at night, you might have swollen ankles or still have nausea that didn't end after the promised first trimester but you can't deny that growing a tiny new human life is magical!

At Secret Smile Photography I already offer maternity photography sessions, progression photography sessions and Milestone Memories packages to include a maternity photography shoot and now I am offering a brand new package - bump casting and newborn photography session!

What is bump casting?

Quite simply, I use plaster gauze bandages much like the ones used in hospitals to set a broken bone to take a cast of your beautiful baby bump.  The process only takes about 25 minutes and you will be able to sit back and relax with a nice cuppa on a comfy chair whilst I apply these plaster gauze strips to your bump. I need to apply roughly 3 layers building each layer so that when the plaster dries the cast will retain the shape of your bump.

The process is not at all painful and will in no way harm your baby. The plaster does set slightly before I remove it but baby will still have plenty of room to wiggle and kick and about. A thin layer of petroleum jelly is used to ensure that the plaster does not stick to your skin and can easily be removed after about 15 minutes of drying. The cast is then left overnight to fully harden when I can then add new layers of the plaster gauze to strengthen the cast and refine the edges.

Why do a bump cast in the first place?

Why indeed? Apart from the experience of seeing your bump in all it's glory once the cast is finished we can also use it as a prop during your newborn photography session here at Secret Smile Photography. Often when families come back for their newborn session they say "I can't believe that our baby was inside my tummy just 2 weeks ago", they marvel at how their precious little bundle is now here after all those months of growing and what better way to showcase that than by posing them in the cast of the bump they were previously inside?

I want one, how can I get one?

Easy peasy, just email lisa@secretsmilephotography.com or use the Contact Lisa page to send an enquiry form and I can get you booked in! The best time to do your cast is between 35 and 37 weeks pregnant so your bump is nice and pronounced but you are not (hopefully!) feeling too exhausted. The package includes the bump casting session and your newborn photography session and costs £125. The cast is yours to keep after your newborn session and the casting is a lovely way for use to get to know each other a little bit in a nice relaxed environment before you bring your new little bundle to the studio for their first photography session.

I truly love what I do and I really want everyone to love their experience into parenthood, bump casting combined with your newborn's first photographs are the perfect way to document the start of this amazing journey.
