Winnie the Pooh day - 18th January 2017

Every year International Winnie the Pooh day is celebrated on 18th January which is A.A. Milne's birthday, the writer behind the stuffed bear and his adventures with his friends in the Hundred Acre wood. A.A. Milne was born on this day in 1882 in London.

The little stuffed bear who belonged to a boy named Christopher Robin along with his other friends from the stories such as Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger, Roo and Rabbit had high adventures immortalised in children's books the world over. Love him or hate him, Winnie the Pooh is a character that children recognise and love, as do some adults. Before my son was born I decorated his nursery with Winnie the Pooh themed bedding, decals and other adorable paraphernalia because I loved the books and eventually the cartoons too and the theme for a baby's nursery is wonderfully unisex and adaptable.

As a nod to the fun day of remembrance for a British author I thought I would share with you a few Pooh Bear inspired images expertly modelled by the very sleepy and utterly adorable Noah. Always with baby safety in mind, this image was taken as a composite which is 2 similar images merged together in Photoshop so Noah was supported at all times and the illusion of him supporting himself in the 'potato sack' pose is created. For more information on compsite images and to find a newborn photographer local to you who is a member of BANPAS (an organisation committed to educating photographers and parents alike in the importance of safe baby posing) you can check out their website www.banpas.co.uk.

Some very memorable friendship quotes from A.A. Milne through the Winnie the Pooh stories are very mainstream, being used frequently in online memes, on giftware that you can give to friends or family and of course on baby items, particularly for newborns. Many high street stores stock Pooh Bear adorned babygrows, bibs, nursery decorations and baby essentials with the tubby stuffed bear and his friends on. My son was bought a freestanding wooden plaque for his bedroom with Pooh Bear and piglet holding hands and the quote "As soon as I saw you I knew an adventure was going to happen" on and now that my son is 'too old' for such warm fuzziness (it's tough being 8 in this day and age!) the plaque is now at my studio because the sentiment is perfect and so true. A newborn baby is a very grand adventure indeed! For Winnie the Pooh inspiration for quotes, nursery items and all things related you check out my Pinterest board.

Whilst I must admit to finding Pooh Bear incredibly frustrating I adored Eeyore and Tigger as characters, the eternally depressed donkey and the very over-excitable tiger (who, let's face it, had absolutely no place in a forest with bears) whose adventures were about friendship, bravery, fun and love. The stories will always be timeless, the characters will always be recognisable and the quotes will always apply to those we hold dear. So, to you, on this day, I say "Happy Winnie the Pooh day", hold your little ones a tad closer and whisper to them "If there ever comes a day we can't be together, hold me in your heart I'll be there forever". Unless, of course, your child is an 8 year old obsessed with war games, rude noises and Monopoly like mine is.
